“My sincere advice to my sons the young men and my daughters the young women is that they embrace learning the Arabic language, and perfect their use of it. For it is the language of their religion, their homeland, and their forefathers and ancestors. And this does not contradict nor conflict with learning other languages and sciences in their proper fields.”
The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques
King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud
Considering the rapid industrial transformations the world is witnessing today; industrial development has become a fundamental pillar of economic growth and a key engine for innovation and technological advancement. As a result of this momentum, there is an increasing need for knowledge tools that empower individuals and institutions to keep pace with the era’s developments and understand its technical language.
At the heart of these transformations, the electric vehicle industry emerges as one of the pillars of the modern industrial revolution, witnessing remarkable evolution in terms of design, manufacturing and application, with the aim of achieving both operational efficiency and environmental sustainability.
From this context, the Electric Vehicle Terminology Glossary initiative was launched by NAVA academy, collaboration with the (Ministry of Industry & Mineral Resources) and the (King Salman International Arabic Language Complex), to fill the gap in terminology between Arabic and English, and to serve as a trusted reference that contributes to unifying technical concepts and facilitating their circulation.
It should be noted that this glossary is integrated within the academic curriculum adopted by the Academy, to serve as a comprehensive educational tool that supports technical knowledge within both educational and professional environments. It has effect not limited to the vehicle supply chain but extends to the connected sectors, thereby enhancing industrial and knowledge integration on a broader scale.
The glossary was prepared with scientific care and high professionalism, to serve a wide segment of students, researchers, technicians and those interested in the field of electric vehicles, and to act as a supportive tool in their educational and professional journey.
This initiative comes within the commitment of the Academy, as the national pioneer institution in qualifying Saudi competencies for the manufacturing and maintenance of electric vehicles, for its pivotal role in developing human capital, through advanced educational programmes linked with real employment opportunities, within the framework of local and international strategic partnerships that contribute to building a sustainable knowledge economy and a competitive national mobility sector.
Chairman of the Board of Trustees at the Academy
Mr. Jerry Todd
In line with the rapid transformations the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is witnessing in the fields of industry and transport, the launch of the Academy’s Electric Vehicle Glossary reflects our firm commitment to strengthening the presence of the Arabic language in the industrial work environment. This glossary represents a pivotal step to support education and knowledge transfer, thus contributing to strengthening the electric-vehicle manufacturing and maintenance sector.
The need has become urgent for specialized linguistic references that define technical terms precisely, especially given the scarcity of reliable Arabic content and the absence of unified standards in translating concepts of this emerging and evolving sector. This glossary therefore comes to fill this gap, unify the concepts, and ease the circulation of terminology within educational and industrial institutions.
This project is not a mere individual translation effort; it is an integrated institutional work built on establishing an accurate and proficient Arabic technical language that links education with industry and serves development. The glossary aims to enable future generations to express their technical concepts in their mother tongue, thereby enhancing their capacity for comprehension, application and contribution to skill development, stimulating their creativity, and delineating promising professional and educational futures capable of facing challenges with confidence and stability.
At the Academy, we are proud of our strategic partnership with the Ministry of Industry & Mineral Resources and the King Salman International Arabic Language Complex, and we reaffirm our continuous commitment to developing the glossary to become an Arabic reference resource serving the Kingdom and the entire region.
Director-General of the Academy
Mr. Mohammad Al-Suhaim
In collaboration with the Ministry of Industry & Mineral Resources and the King Salman International Arabic Language Complex, the Academy sought through this glossary to provide a comprehensive knowledge reference supporting the electric vehicle industry in Saudi Arabia and the Arab world. The glossary was constructed in accordance with an advanced and precise methodology aligned with the best international practices in lexicon preparation, with focus on meeting the requirements of modern and advanced industries.
The methodology, which considered the technical and scientific specificity of the electric vehicle sector in its design, comprises four main phases:
Collection and identification of terms
Analysis and standardization of translations
Technical verification of content
Linguistic verification of content
Collection and identification of terms
Analysis and standardization of translations
Technical verification of content
Linguistic verification of content
In this phase, the specialized technical terms in the field of electric vehicles are collected. The process of term-collection is based on precise scientific foundations that ensure inclusion of all modern and used terms in industrial and academic literature.
Attention is paid to newly emerged terms which are evolving rapidly, such as those related to artificial intelligence, battery technology, and mechanical engineering specific to electric vehicles.
Work is made to select terms that represent the core scientific and technical concepts in this field, to ensure accuracy and clarity of translation.
This phase focuses on identifying the best Arabic equivalents for the English terms, avoiding literal translation that may lead to ambiguity or confusion.
Search is conducted for the synonyms commonly accepted in academic and industrial circles.
The Academy took care to develop a capable Arabic language, yet familiar to the reader, facilitating understanding and providing flexibility in the application of terms in modern technical contexts.
During this phase, the Academy, in collaboration with a group of experts in the field of manufacturing and maintaining electric vehicles, reviewed the accuracy of the terms from a technical perspective. Verification is made to ensure compliance of the terms with international standards in the electrical industries, thus enhancing the credibility of the glossary as an approved technical reference.
The review focuses on confirming consistency of the technical concepts and absence of overlap or ambiguity between terms.
In this phase, the language is carefully reviewed to ensure clarity of expression and accuracy.
Work is done to re-formulate the definitions in line with sound linguistic rules, while considering ease of comprehension and professionalism in presentation.
The translations are checked for conformity with academic Arabic language standards, to ensure ease of use of the glossary by students, practitioners and professionals alike.
